Vietnam's cross-border e-commerce exports have enormous potential, enterprises are accelerating
Vietnam is considered one of the fastest growing countries in global e-commerce. According to the Vietnam E-commerce Association (VECOM) citing data from the Access Partnership, more and more Vietnamese companies are accelerating their expansion into cross-border markets through digital platforms, especially in the "post pandemic era" where cross-border e-commerce is becoming a new engine for export growth.During the epidemic, B2B (business to business) exports were temporarily hindered, while B2C (business to consumer) cross-border e-commerce models showed strong resilience. Shopee has revealed that over 350000 Vietnamese sellers have sold more than 15 million items to international markets through the platform.
At the same time, Trinh Khac Toan, Regional Director for North Vietnam at Amazon Global Store, pointed out that global trade is rapidly transitioning towards digitalization, and cross-border e-commerce has brought unprecedented global opportunities for Vietnamese enterprises. According to Amazon data, the number of exported goods by Vietnamese sellers has increased by 300% in the past five years, and hundreds of small and medium-sized enterprises have exceeded $1 million in sales on the platform last year.
However, industry experts also point out that many Vietnamese companies still face challenges such as irregular release of product information, lack of cross-border logistics and customer service capabilities, and weak data infrastructure. To ensure that 'Made in Vietnam' continues to go global, companies need to continuously upgrade their brand building, logistics system, overseas marketing, and other aspects.
Currently, the United States is Vietnam's largest market for exporting goods through e-commerce channels, while China, the European Union, Japan, and South Korea remain important destinations. With the deep deployment of platforms such as Amazon, Shopee, and Alibaba in Vietnam, more and more small and medium-sized enterprises are able to enter the international market at low cost and with high efficiency.
In order to promote the long-term development of cross-border e-commerce, the Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade has adopted the "National E-commerce Development Plan 2026-2030", which is committed to enhancing the digital capabilities of local enterprises and strengthening the brand influence of "Made in Vietnam" in the global market.
